Origin of Coton de Tulear
For centuries, Coton de Tulear has been a companion dog for the rich in southern Madagascar, where it has been bred and established. In the past, purebred dogs were common on the French island of reunion, along the eastern coast of Madagascar, but are on the verge of extinction. This is a typical Pico dog. It is distinguished by its long, marshmallow like fur (which needs careful brushing), but the coat has yellow and black spots, which is different from the European Pico. This noble, gentle and intelligent breed is becoming more and more popular in the United States.
